You Can't Argue with Morons

It is ridiculous to think that one can argue with today’s conservative zealots. After all, the few remaining conservative thinkers that were worthy of debating are dropping off like flies. William F. Buckley, Irving Kristol, and now William Safire have all died in the last year, leaving us with the likes of Glen Beck or Bill O’Reilly, neither of which can be considered reasonable debaters as both of them subscribe to a style which sees all that disagree with them as the embodiment of evil. Which is hilarious if you think about it, for the afore mentioned duo consists of a former tabloid reporter and a former Top 40 DJ.

Unfortunate it is indeed that all that is left are those that Sam Tanenhaus referred to as Revanchist Conservatives; bomb-throwers that have no concern for facts or statistics. These new Conservative blowhards are completely divorced from the very ideological fundamentals that they proclaim to subscribe to. For example, try engaging in the finer points of the pragmatism of Disraeli with a moron like Beck and you are likely to drown in the drool that oozes from his slack mouth before being forced to sit through a rant about how the Founding Fathers meant for all former drug addicts to have their say in the nation’s great political debate. Or better yet, try discussing the conversion of a former Communist like Whittaker Chambers with O’Reilly. On second thought, you better not because all he will do is call you a “pinhead” for even suggesting that Chambers was a Communist in the first place. How does one even talk to those that have purposefully and gleefully divorced themselves from reality?

The answer is non-engagement. For to attempt to engage these types on common ground is not only futile, it is anti-productive as they don’t subscribe to reality. Their job at this juncture is to spread disinformation among those that only pay attention to headlines, thereby swinging public opinion away from the Democrats and forcing the policies of the duly elected government to fail at all costs. And it seems to be working; Obama’s agenda is stalling, not because of the obstructionist Republican voices like Joe Wilson, but because of the angry masses that appeared at Town Hall meetings during the August recess; threatening the Blue Dogs like bloodthirsty peasants wielding pitchforks and torches, egged on by the likes of Beck and O’Reilly.
